6 Difficult Things To Move

October 17, 2021

Moving day comes with a lot of tasks to complete and a lot of things to keep track of. While some clever planning and preparation for your move can help alleviate some of the stress of moving day, some items are just tricky to move on your own. Here are a few difficult items to move, and some of our top tips for moving them so they arrive at your new home intact.

6 Difficult Things To Move

No matter what you're placing on the moving truck, you want to be sure that everything is packed carefully to avoid breaking or damaging any of your belongings. But some things may be particularly large, bulky, or fragile, which can make them a bit more difficult to move — even if you're careful. These are a few items to watch out for:

  • Televisions. TVs can be large and fragile, and if they are not packed correctly, they can topple over in the moving truck and crack the screen.
  • Pianos. Pianos are incredibly heavy and difficult to maneuver out of one home and into a new one. Without taking the proper care to move a piano, you could risk scratching the sides, breaking a foot pedal or leg, or accidentally damage the delicate inner workings.
  • Fish Tanks. Large aquariums are bulky, heavy, and tricky to move, while also being incredibly fragile because of the large amount of glass. One mistake with improperly packing or moving a fish tank could risk shattering the glass exterior.
  • Large Furniture and Appliances. Many of the things you'll need to move are large, bulky, and hard to move through doorways or up/down stairs without scratching the walls, doors, banisters, or the items themselves.
  • Artwork. Whether it's a framed painting or a sculpture, artwork comes in all shapes and sizes, and is often quite fragile. If not packed and moved carefully, you could risk damaging a one-of-a-kind piece.
  • Fragile Items. Items big and small can be fragile. Mirrors, dishes, home décor, or even antique or sentimental items can be fragile and take extra care when packing and moving them.

When To Bring In the Professionals

While it may be tempting to save a little money by moving everything yourself, it comes at the cost of potentially damaging or breaking your items during the moving process. If you have any of the items listed above, it's worthwhile to hire some professional movers to take care of packing, loading, and unloading them for you during your move. Professional movers are experienced in moving these types of items with the utmost care, so you can enjoy moving day with some added peace of mind knowing that all your belongings will arrive in your new home safe and sound.
